Calling all young artists!

The Landon Pearson Centre for the Study of Childhood and Children’s Rights is excited to announce the 2025/26 Children & Youth Arts Contest for children and youth! This year’s contest invites artists to explore the theme of “Freedom of Expression and Identity”.

Step 1
1. Acknowledge your right to freedom of expression!

Using art, artists are encouraged to create a piece inspired by how you experience your rights to freedom of expression and identity as a child or youth.

Share your story about how you express yourself and your identity, and how this can feel empowering or challenging. Expression can take many forms — through your art, your style, or the choices you make in daily life. Let your identity shine through your work!

Here are ideas to get you started!

  • What activities or hobbies allow you to express yourself?

  • Do you feel like you can be yourself at school? What about on social media?

  • How do relationships impact your identity? Do you feel heard and listened to?

  • Do you feel like you have a say in keeping your body and mind healthy? How do you take care of your physical and mental health?

Step 2

2. Be creative!

Drawings and paintings, videos or photographs, music, dances, any art forms are accepted!

Step 3

3. Tell us about it!

Include a short story to explain your inspiration and how your art explores “Freedom of Expression & Identity”. Your story can be 250 words or less, written or a video/audio!

Step 5

5. Show us your art!

Submit your art, and your story about your art. You can submit it to the Landon Pearson Centre by using the "Submit Your Art" page on this website!
